Growing up surrounded by art and music, Debashis Das has always been a dreamer. His journey into independent filmmaking began in 2009 with a MiniDV camera, creating experimental short films that explored the inner world of a young boy grappling with existential questions. These early works inspired his friends to join him in filmmaking.
After earning a degree in Agricultural Engineering, Debashis attended the Bangladesh Cinema and Television Institute (BCTI), where he developed a keen interest in non-narrative avant-garde films. During the pandemic, he expanded his creative horizons through online workshops, particularly focusing on first-person cinema. This passion led him to pursue a Master’s degree in Documentary Film Direction in Europe under the Erasmus+ DocNomads scholarship. Throughout this period, his films pushed the boundaries of documentary cinema by blending personal narrative with critical inquiry into self-therapeutic cinema.
