Md Imtiaj Islam

Md Imtiaj Islam lives and works in Kushtia, Bangladesh, as a practicing artist and Art Educator in the Department of Fine Arts (Painting) at Islamic University, Bangladesh. He completed his MFA in Painting from Rabindra Bharati University in Kolkata, West Bengal, and his BFA in Drawing and Painting from the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka.

Imtiaj’s works have been exhibited in Bangladesh, Hong Kong, Italy, and India. With 10 years of experience, he has built a strong portfolio that includes exhibitions, published articles, and academic achievements. As an artist and traveler, he believes that the “journey” shapes both his life and his work. To him, memory is our most lasting possession, and he uses the places he encounters as subjects, developing them through his own visual language. This ongoing process drives him to keep learning, experimenting, and creating original works that reflect his ideas and connections.

His personal experiences, influences, and the messages behind his work add depth and meaning that engage viewers. Imtiaj has received the Sovereign Asian Art Prize (2021), the National Award for Best Installation (2021), and the Berger Award (1st place, 2023).

About Us

Chobi Mela, the first festival of photography in Asia, is one of the most exciting ventures that Drik and Pathshala has initiated. The first Chobi Mela – International Festival of Photography was held in December 2000 – January 2001. It is the most demographically inclusive photo festival in the world and is held every two years in Dhaka.
