Diamond Dreams
Intan Ratih Kumalasari is a young amateur female boxer. She started to box at the age of 13 when her first coach invited her for training. She lives in the suburbs of Jakarta with her mother and sisters. But it is the gym she truly calls her home. Barely 17 years old, she has already more than 10 official junior championships fights under her belt and they are all outright wins. She trains three times a day, and in each training she not only trains in order to win in the ring but also to prove herself as a woman. "I want to be a woman with distinction."
She is only one of the few of female boxers in this male dominated sport in Indonesia. Intan, which means Diamond in Indonesian, is still in the very early stages of her career in boxing. Her career and life struggles have just begun. However, she has started as a beautiful butterfly with a firm sting like a bee. She fights not only for herself but also for the rest of the 118 million women in Indonesia who have it in their hearts that they can achieve anything and everything as a person and not be overlooked as a woman. It is their diamond dreams.
